A beautiful Saturday in Napa!

“Wine is life.” — Petronius

Last Saturday, Meghan, Andrea, Carrie, Bridget, Kate and I spent a magnificent day in Napa Valley, chauffeured by our very own guide, Scott. We departed Russian Hill, sundresses and sunglasses on, for a day that did not disappoint! Stops included Artesa, Laird Family Estates, Cakebread, Grgich Hills, and Chandon.

Being a lover of good California style Chardonnays, my two favorite stops were Artesa, which sits atop the Valley with stunning panoramic views and has an interior reminiscent of the Getty in LA, and Cakebread, famous for their wonderful wines. And no WIT wine trip would be complete without some sparkling wine, so our last stop was at Chandon, where we had some delicious roses!

In all, a fabulous day. People know that I am a bit of a “wino”, and I was thinking about what it is that I love about wine. Is it the taste, the experience, or a bit of both? And I narrowed it down to five things:

1. The adventure of wine
2. The experience of drinking, discovering, learning about and enjoying wine
3. The memories surrounding wine and different bottles
4. The feeling I get half-way through my first glass…the onset of tipsiness!
5. That no celebration is complete without a bottle of champagne or sparkling wine!

Ernest Hemingway said, “wine is the most civilized thing in the world,” and while we may not have been the most civilized or “witty” by the end of our fabulous day, we surely had a blast! Cheers to many more wine tours, and the memories that we will create!
