With Memorial Day having just passed, summer is officially here. You can already feel the mood is lighter in New York with outdoor dining packed onto every sidewalk and people discussing their summer travel plans. I’ll be spending some time in Nantucket and also in Minneapolis this summer but I’ve made a commitment to plan some additional long weekend trips, too and really soak up the season!

I personally always start by planning all of my trips with KAYAK’s Flight Search tool so when they approached me about helping to get the word out about their 2016 Summer Travel Hacker Guide, I was ready to hear more. The guide KAYAK put together features a “Summer Fridays” list to give you all the weekend travel inspiration you need this June through August.

The ten cities featured are among the most popular weekend destinations for Friday – Sunday travels based on KAYAK user data, and they’ve done the leg work to provide median airfares month by month with recommendations on when to book for each destination as well as letting you know helpful facts like average temperatures.

So today in partnership with KAYAK I’m excited to be sharing an itinerary for one of the top 10 destinations and a look inspired by it. Drumroll, please…Key West!

I haven’t been to Key West since I was little but I actually have family in Florida who were kind enough to provide some insider intel on the best places to hit up that I used when planning the long weekend in KAYAK’s Trips tool. When I plan trips I like to have a good idea of where I want to hit up in advance (I’m Type A…ha!) so with the Trips planning tool I was able to pencil in a snorkeling trip, dinner at a spot with supposedly the best Key Lime pie (which I love! Anyone else make desserts a priority when traveling?) and a brunch spot with a garden to soak up that FL sunshine. You’ll see I could add in notes so I remember why I wanted to visit a particular spot. The Trips tool is the perfect way to organize and manage an itinerary for any of your upcoming travels.

KAYAK’s Hacker travel tip for Key West is to skip the rental car because parking can be a headache. Turns out you can see the area just as well from 2 wheels so I also noted a well reviewed bike rentals place!

Key West Inspired StyleWhile Key West offers plenty of cultural spots, my trip priorities would be to hit the beach, hit the water and drink & eat my way through the town for some solid R&R. That’s what summer trips are all about, right!?

Perfect outfit for Key West! I’ll be attending a wedding in Miami later this summer, and I’m hoping I’ll be able to check out some of the keys before or after the festivities!
