All Black Work Wear

Twirl I @meghandono

I’ve always been one to overdress. I never like the feeling of walking into a room feeling like I’m not properly dressed for the occasion so as I’ve come into my own regarding personal style, I started looking to always be a bit dressier than perhaps a scenario called for.

Work Wear

& Other Stories Midi Skirt

Given my propensity for midi skirts, I picked up this one from & Other Stories and paired it with these perfectly sleek nude heeled sandals for a day full of meetings and speaking at The General Assembly. There’s something about being in all black silhouette that always makes me feel ready to take on the world. (Anyone else out there relate?)

My days this summer (when not traveling) have largely become non-stop meetings (no slow summer days here!) and when in doubt on what to wear, I always grab a midi skirt and a noticeable shoe. It’s a no-fail way to look put together. (And let’s be honest, my no-fail ensemble often tends to be all black, too!)

I recently had someone say to me “Oh I can’t ever wear that shape, I’m too short” referring to the midi skirt I was wearing. “I’m only 5′ 5″,” I replied. She looked shocked. But what I explained is that you have to pair the shape with the right shoe. Generally that shoe should have height or in this ensemble, a contrasting color provided the right illusion. Of course, you need to feel good in the garment, too, but in my 30s I’ve come to realize this silhouette is one that always makes me feel good when I show up somewhere. It’s professional and mature but not a suit or something similar. Lord knows you won’t find me in a suit any day soon 🙂

Hope you guys had a wonderful weekend!

I love this outfit – pure Parisian chic! Have you heard the French girl rule of thumb for picking shoes? They say that if your skirt is above the knee, you should wear flats, and if it’s below the knee, wear heels. It looks like you’re already on top of it 🙂

You calling my look Parisian chic has literally made my whole week 🙂 Thank you, Mil! And oddly enough I had never heard that rule! Makes so much sense though! Now I just need to embrace flats a bit more!
