A Summer Picnic

Central Park Picnic I Meghan Donovan

Summer Picnic SnacksI’ve had the pleasure of being in New York for the last several weekends and been so eager to check things off my summer bucket list. You know what’s getting in the way though? THE HEAT. It’s no longer a heat wave because it’s been so hot and humid for days upon days of recent.

A Central Park Picnic

That being said, it didn’t stop me from doing a little picnic in Central Park the other day! NESTLÉ® SPLASH approached me to see if I’d explore my city in the summer and share how I soak up the season and it was the perfect excuse to head to the park. NESTLÉ® SPLASH comes in five flavors including wild berry, lemon, strawberry melon, acai grape and mandarin orange so you can stay hydrated with a touch of sweetness. Their mantra is that hydration should be fun, flavorful, and a little bit unexpected so this summer they are encouraging all of us to embrace that sentiment. Whether it be with an outdoor lunch break, enjoying a stroll in the park, or experiencing an out of town journey – whatever adds a little dose of fun to your day.

Summer Hydration

While I’m usually all for adorning a picnic with some vino, when it is 90+ degrees out nothing sounds worse than something alcoholic or super caloric and sugary, so staying hydrated with a fruit water is much more appealing to me. I picked up snacks that would all withstand the heat (read: no cheese that would be sweating, bread that would be getting an extra dose of baking…you get the point.)

A Summer Picnic I wit & whimsyInstead I stocked up on dried fruit, coconut chips, nuts and plantain chips (all of which had no issue with overheating or spoiling.) I kept my NESTLÉ® SPLASH cool in my Apolis tote by packing it in ice packs for the subway ride up to the park. (This city girl doesn’t have room in her apartment to store a cooler – ha!)

NESTLE SPLASH I wit & whimsyI’ve actually been working on a post to share all my favorite summer activities in New York and no doubt time spent in Central Park will make it in there. As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, the park still amazes me with so much of Mother Nature nestled in amidst the wild and crazy city that is Manhattan. Next on my list is to attempt to row a boat in the pond!

Here’s to soaking up every last bit of summer…

  1. GF says:

I used to drink Nestle splash (the raspberry flavor) ALL THE TIME in high school–I loved them! haven’t had them in awhile, but this heat wave (currently roasting in the Midwest as well) def may inspire me to pick up a few; what a (pleasant) throwback for me!

  2. I tried the rowboating once and it was surprisingly enjoyable! But make sure you or someone you’re with knows how to row, because it’s harder than it looks :). Also, I would recommend going a little later in the day because the heat (i.e. sweating, well for me anyway) is real when you’re out there in the middle of the lake.
