Where are you from?
I grew up in Chicago but also spent two years of my childhood living abroad in London. I then headed West and went to school at Santa Clara University and moved to San Francisco upon graduation. After 4 years there, I moved to New York in the winter of 2011!
How did you start wit & whimsy?
I started my blog way back before blogging was even a word used in everyday conversations. I had a passion for writing and a love for fashion and one of my brothers recommended I combine the two into one place where I could creatively put into words what I was interested in. That day, December 29, 2006 he set me up with a blogspot account and I’ve been grateful ever since. I can’t imagine where my life would have taken me without this little blog!
Do you blog full time?
I don’t! In addition to wit & whimsy, I run a PR and influencer marketing company representing beauty and lifestyle brands.
How did you get started in your PR Career?
I majored in Communications and then got as many internships as possible which proved to be utterly invaluable. If you have more career questions, feel free to email me and I also highly recommend this post.
What’s the best advice you have for those wanting to start a blog?
Be yourself and be consistent. Post quality content regularly. Don’t do it to make money, do it because you’re seeking a creative outlet or a way to meet new people. See here for more on why you should blog, see here on great advice of how to make your blog a business and here for tips on what to do once your blog starts growing.
Who takes your photos?
I’m coming to NYC and would love to try some of your favorite spots.
I have a fashion/beauty/blogging/career question for you- what’s the best way to reach you?
Do you make money off your blog? If so, how?
wit & whimsy is monetized through a variety of ways including affiliate links (I make a small commission if you purchase certain items I link to), sponsored posts and brand collaborations. Monetizing was never a goal when I started this site way back when, but it has become a way for me to work closely with brands I admire and curate content I think you, my readers, will enjoy while providing me with the extra income required to keep the site running.
