w&w gift guide : 02 : bloggers picks

I had so much fun last year rounding up the gift picks of some of my favorite bloggers (see here) that I decided to do it again this year! For the second installment of the WIT & Whimsy 2011 Gift Guide, here is what’s topping the wish lists of some of my daily reads from blogger friends.

“My gift pick this year is Vogue: The Covers Book. I’m a sucker for coffee table books, especially with beautiful photography & fashion!” – Helena, Brooklyn Blonde
“I’ve wanted this scarf for forever, and after seeing the McQueen show at the Met this year, I’m even more obsessed!  This skull print is iconic and will never go out of style, and I think this is such a fun way to dress up a winter coat or dress!” – Katy, Sugarlaws
“At the top of my wish list this year is Khepri’s Hedy Cabas Tote.  The bags are designed by a friend of mine, and they are each crafted from 100% vintage materials.  This one is my favorite – super soft lambskin – and big enough for me to fit my laptop, clutch, camera, and other essentials.” – Grace, Stripes + Sequins
“I’m loving dainty gold necklaces and this Topshop Barb Wire Station necklace has just the right amount of attitude too!” – Anh, 9 to 5 Chic
“One of my favorite gifts to both give and receive is a fabulous new nail shade.  Nail polish is perfect the gift during the holiday season when many of us are dressing up for a holiday soiree or two.  A few of my favorites are Dior ‘Tuxedo’, Chanel ‘Pirate’, and the oh so affordable J.Crew FACE gift set.” – Blair, Atlantic-Pacific
“At the top of my list this year are the Rag & Bone Ivydale gloves. I’m desperately in need of a quality (and chic) pair of gloves for this winter!” – Alicia, Cheetah is the New Black
“While my wish list is a plenty, if I had to choose one piece it would be the Ava Tufted Sofa from Urban Outfitters. My husband and I are moving into a new apartment the week before Christmas + I’ve caught the decorating bug, BAD! This sofa is a combination of all the necessities – chic, affordable and functional!” – Christine, Court + Hudson
Thanks so much to the above ladies for participating! I love their picks! Which is your favorite?

summer layers {guest post}

As a San Franciscan who is used to temperamental summer weather, I have learned that layers are a necessity! Summer layering can be especially difficult because you want to look like you’re dressed for the right season, not the dead of winter. I like to pair my summer wear (shorts, dresses and rompers) with a military vest, semi-sheer blouse, and/or leather jacket for a seasonally appropriate look with added warmth! Swap your basic cardi in favor of a chambray top to wear over a striped tee, and always carry a patterned scarf in your bag because you never know when those temps will drop and the sun will disappear.

Equipment blouse, J.Crew vest, Textile Elizabeth & James shorts, Alexander McQueen scarf

The Row blouse, Topshop romper, Topshop leather jacket

sunday exhibition

Zara blouse, 7 for All Mankind denim, BCBG flats, Madewell scarf, Stella McCartney sunnies (via Shopbop), Michael Kors bag (last seen here) and watch, Jewelry: H&M, Anthropologie, CC Skye

Yesterday I spent the day with Taylor as we set out to see the brand new Alexander McQueen ‘Savage Beauty’ exhibit at the Met and man, am I happy we did. The exhibit is breathtaking, moving, disturbing and thought provoking and each installation was beautifully executed. If you’re in New York (or visiting before July 31st), you must go see it.

Afterward we soaked up the plentiful sunshine on the roof deck of the museum, shot some pics for cette post and then later brunched at Wicker Park in my UES neck of the woods. It was the perfect Sunday and I followed it by getting a much needed pedi (in Essie’s Canyon Coral) and seeing Something Borrowed (cute, but not great). Sunday perfection.

Oh and p.s. – check out Tay’s account of the day here.
