w&w Votes : Part II

October 30, 2008

In less than a week our political outlook will change. We’ll know who our new President-to-be is and we’ll begin to hear how the path of America’s future is going to look (ideally).

Every four years we hear about the impact young voters can have in choosing the next president, but this year it seems like it’s being talked about more, blogged about more, seen more, heard more. We are empowered with the right to vote and thank goodness for that.
An article on MSNBC by the Associated Press looked at the power of the young voters and nearly 2-to-1 were supporting Democratic nominee Barack Obama among 18- to 29-year-olds. It discussed the AP-Yahoo News Poll conducted earlier in October which found that, among 18- to 29-year-old likely voters, 60 percent supported Obama, 33 percent Republican John McCain.
“The huge influx of new voters is part of a larger national trend. Rock the Vote, which focuses on young voters, has registered more than 2.3 million voters this year, compared with more than 1.4 million voters in 2004, already a standout year for youth turnout,” says the AP.
Most of you already will, but be sure to VOTE! VOTE! VOTE! on November 4th. There’s nothing more importnant you’ll do on that day next week.
