Cashmere Fisherman Sweater Jenni Kayne

Cashmere season is my favorite and I always love living in cashmere as soon as it gets cold out. I am rather picky about cashmere because, let’s be honest: not all cashmere is created equal!

I have tried out a lot of brands and really found some winners over the years. I think investing in quality cashmere is an important part of building a wardrobe full of quality staples.

The Best Cashmere Sweaters

Today’s post is about highlighting my tried + tested cashmere with you so you know what’s worth investing in. Below, in a shoppable widget, I have also rounded up the styles available now from brands I like so be sure to read on to shop more styles!

Jenni Kayne Cashmere Fisherman Sweater

I love how versatile this sweater is. And man, is it soft. After buying it I found myself reaching for it again and again. And I’ve had no significant issue with pilling whatsoever on it (a true sign of the quality of their 100% cashmere) and why I feel it is worth its price tag. It has a classic crewneck silhouette and I love the subtly texture to it. It feels extremely luxurious every time I slip it on.

I find it true to size – I am wearing a M. I now own this in the Oatmeal (seen above), the Ivory, the Black and the Charcoal.

Jenni Kayne Cashmere Hoodie

Jenni Kayne Cashmere Fisherman Hoodie

Slouchy, comfy, cozy perfection. Both the body and the hood are slightly oversized making this a 100% cashmere sweater you’ll want to live in.

In the winter I absolutely love traveling in this cozy sweater. It’s cute with jeans but also pairs well with my favorite leggings and joggers.

I sized up to a size Large for a more oversized fit.

Chocolate Brown Outfit for Fall

COS Cashmere Crewneck

This COS sweater that is one of the most versatile and flattering pieces I own. I first bought it in a charcoal gray years ago and then this season picked up the gorgeous, on-trend chocolate brown. It comes in a variety of colors from which you can choose!

Their cashmere is really good. It’s wearability, quality and versatility make it worth the price tag in my opinion. I’m wearing a Medium. I like that their cashmere styles are also very timeless meaning you’ll own and be able to wear the pieces for many, many years.

In addition to their cashmere sweaters, I’ve also purchased cashmere hats and scarves from the brand. If you’re not familiar with them, they are the higher-end label to sister brand H&M.

Everlane Cashmere Crew

The Everlane cashmere crew is a more affordable option at $145 and great quality for the price. It does pill over time with a lot of wear but I just take my favorite gadget to it and it is like new in no time.

I usually do my usual M size but depending on the style of cashmere from Everlane I may size up.

Fall Winter Paris Outfit featuring Cropped Everlane Sweater with Vegan Leather Pants

Everlane Boxy Cashmere Crew

This sweater was a new addition to my rotation last year. I like the boxy cropped fit of it because it means it pairs well with high waisted pants, skirts and layers well over oversized button downs like seen below paired with the Jenni Kayne Boyfriend Shirt (size S).

I sized up to a L in this style. I plan to get the new striped version next.

Inez Mila Boot Fall Outfit

Cuyana Cashmere Sweater I wit & whimsy

Cuyana Recycled Cashmere Crewneck

A relaxed silhouette with slits on the side makes this Cuyana Crewneck a more casual cashmere sweater. I love that it is made from recycled materials. Wearing a M.

Tonal Dressing on Meghan Donovan of wit & whimsy

Equipment Cashmere Crewneck

You all know how much I deeply love my Equipment cashmere sweater. It’s held up remarkably for over a decade of wear.

Wearing a M.

La Ligne Striped Sweater I wit & whimsy

La Ligne Marin Sweater

Last year I fell in love with the small brand La Ligne who makes delicious cashmere. They are $$$ but given how much I live in my collection of cashmere sweaters and how beautifully these are made, they’ve been worth it.

The most plush, luxurious sweater with a perfectly slouchy oversized yet tailored fit – the La Ligne Marin Sweater is a cashmere dream. Warm enough for the winter but also magically great for summer nights, too.

I love the wide variety of colors it comes in and I now own the Cream/Ivory Stripe and the Navy/Ivory Sweater.

I own this sweater in both a Small and a Medium as it runs oversized. I would buy another color in the M.

La Ligne Mini Marin Sweater

The Mini Marin is the cropped, slightly shrunken version of their Marin Sweater. I like to pair it with high waisted pants or denim but it also goes well with midi skirts.

I have this in two colors as well – Black/Cream and Navy/White. I own it in a Medium but recommend sizing up if you like a roomier fit.

La Ligne Striped Sweater Paris outfit

La Ligne Long Lean Lines Sweater

I wore this sweater so much in black/camel that I bought it in ivory/camel for summer and winter wear. I draped it over my shoulders all summer with my ivory dresses and now I want the black/white version, too.

It’s such a versatile striped knit and I love the extra long sleeves on it that means the stripe pokes out under jackets.

I sized up to a L.

La Ligne Tourjours Cashmere Sweater

La Ligne Toujours Sweater

Named because you’ll want to wear it tous les jours. (‘all the days’ in French), this Toujours Sweater is a great ribbed cashmere sweater with a loose crewneck and slouchy yet put together silhouette. It comes in a variety of colors and I would recommend sizing down.

I’m wearing a size Small in the Ivory above.

Naked Cashmere Sweater

Naked Cashmere

I have the Naked Cashmere Sariah Sweater (sized up to a L- wearing above) and the Naked Cashmere Kaia Sweater and really like them both. This brand does small runs DTC and while pricey, I do find their pieces to be super unique and very luxe looking and feeling.

Cozy, Ribbed Cashmere Sweater I wit & whimsy

Aqua Cashmere

Bloomingdale’s in-house label of cashmere is such good value. This ribbed cashmere sweater of mine from the line is one of my most worn pieces that I bought about five years ago.

Wearing a M. Also own this puff sleeve style in a M as seen below:

You can shop current favorites from the brand in the shoppable widget below.

J.Crew Cashmere Sweater

J.Crew Cashmere Crewneck

If you’re looking for cashmere on more of a budget, this crewneck is a good option. It has a good weight to it, a classic silhouette and loads of colors to choose from. It is priced at $128 and has lots of sizing options, too.

I’m wearing a M but I would buy another color in a Large for a more boyfriend fit.

All Navy Work Outfit Paris Loeffler Randall Boots J.Crew Sweater and Skirt

J.Crew Cropped Cashmere

I like the J.Crew Cropped Cashmere Crewneck for pairing with higher waisted skirts as styled above. It is a thin cashmere and runs rather small. I’m wearing a L above.

This comes in loads of colors and sizes, too.

Everlane Beanie and Turtleneck I wit & whimsy

Everlane Oversized Stroopwaffle Cashmere Turtleneck

This turtleneck is a stunner of a sweater. Perfectly oversized and made from renewed cashmere, this is cozy, soft and a go-to for me in the Winter. I love how it pairs with leggings and jeans. I’m wearing a M. They don’t make this style anymore but this style by the brand is similar.

Classic Outfit I Veronica Beard Plaid Blazer in Paris

J.Crew Relaxed Cashmere T-shirt

A cashmere tee? Yes! This cashmere tee is a favorite layering building block for me. It pairs really well under my favorite cropped jackets and blazers. I own it in three colors now.

I size up to a L.

Amour Vert Joggers

White + Warren Essential Cashmere Crewneck Sweater

The White + Warren essential cashmere sweater is another favorite investment cashmere sweater of mine. White + Warren is definitely on the pricier side but if you’re going to buy investment pieces, cashmere is a great way to start. I love this sweater on its own but it is also great layered under cardigans during the coldest of months. I have owned it for several years and it still gets loads of wear. They also make it in a v-neck version if that’s more your style.

I also have the White + Warren cashmere travel wrap and it’s so dreamy for work from home and for travel. I never get on a plane without it!

And I own their cashmere beanie.

Next on my list from the brand is this waffle cashmere sweatshirt.

M.M.LaFleur O'Hara Blazer Review Fall Outfit

Uniqlo Cashmere

Lastly, another well priced option for cashmere is Uniqlo. I’m wearing a Men’s crewneck above (M) and think they make good quality, more affordable cashmere pieces for both men and women. I will say however their return policy is a nightmare so I won’t be ordering from them again soon.

Cozy Winter Capsule Wardrobe | Fun Holiday Activities At Home | Eileen Fisher Cozy Home Outfit I wit & whimsy

Eileen Fisher Cashmere

Made sustainably and often from recycled materials, the Eileen Fisher cashmere is $$$ but oh-so-plush. The above turtleneck from three years ago is one of the absolute coziest pieces in my entire closet. I always reach for it on the coldest days of winter.

Fall Capsule Collection with M.M.LaFleur

M.M.LaFleur Cashmere

M.M.LaFleur doesn’t do loads of cashmere but I do own this staple turtleneck (size L) and this coat (Size S) from the brand – both from the Fall Capsule I designed with the brand last year. This investment brand is female owned and makes pieces with special care to fit and fabric.

This season I am eyeing this cashmere hoodie.

I would highly recommend Bloomingdale’s cashmere. I have an Aqua (their internal label) ombré cashmere sweater that I got in high school circa 2009 and I still wear it bc it’s in great condition. Barely any pilling.

    • Meghan says:

I have heard great things about them before! Definitely going to order during their sale this week. Thanks for the reminder and recommendation, Elisse!

  2. Melanie says:

So excited about this Everlane cashmere! I have been wanting to try theirs but waiting to pull the trigger, just ordered the one on sale (in the pale lavender) to see how I like it! Thanks for the tip 🙂

  3. Liz says:

I want all of these!!!!! What’s been your experience with washing the Everlane cashmere? Dry clean only?

  4. MarciaMarciaMarcia says:

I have a lot of cashmere sweaters, and there are some great brands out there. I agree with the commenter above who recommended Bloomingdale’s – the quality is pretty great for the price. I also love cashmere crewneck from Everlane – it’s so soft. I only recently discovered Cos, and I love their stuff so I’ll have to take a look at the cashmere.

You should also check out Eric Bompard – pretty much THE essential Parisian cashmere. Great quality and styles, and while not inexpensive, worth it for a great classic.

    • Meghan says:

Going to order some Aqua cashmere- thanks for the recommendation! And I haven’t heard of Eric Bompard so this is exciting – thank you for sharing, Marcia!!

  5. Sam says:

I also have to put in a plug for Saks Fifth Avenue-branded sweaters! They’re usually on sale for ~$100, excellent quality (soft, plush, and feel more like a $3250 sweater, IMO), holdsup over time with some slight pilling after many wears, and come in lots of different colors and cuts!

  6. Emme says:

In one of your Equipment cashmere photo, you are wearing a black hat- you look fabulous in the hat
& you don’t seem to wear them much- definitely add to your wardrobe

  7. Adrien says:

Love this! What is the fit like on the JK fisherman sweater (the first one in the post)? Want to pull the trigger on it but don’t want it to be too tight!

  8. Petra says:

That’s a very comprehensive overview, thanks! I love Jenni Kayne, COS, and Everlane cashmere, but was wondering if you have any experience with cashmere from The Reformation

  9. Ellin says:

Also ran afoul of Uniqlo’s return policy. I agree — won’t order from there again.

  10. Diana says:

Great round up. I would plug the Aqua brand as well. I’ve worn mine in very frequent rotation for several years now and it still looks good. I use the Laundress for cleaning. Can you tell me about the sneakers in the photo with the Long Lean Lines sweater? Thanks.
